CDRPC Land Use/Transportation Planning

The Capital District Regional Planning Commission is working jointly with staff from the Capital District Transportation Committee (CDTC), the area's federally-designated Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), to review and analyze a number of crucial surface transportation planning issues for the Region. The review and analysis process is being accomplished through five working groups, each of which is focusing on a distinct issue.

Working Group A is looking into Alternative Growth and Development Scenarios to review what might happen if Regional population and employment growth departs from recent trends, and whether the form of the growth may be significantly impacted by CDTC's transportation policies. The working group has completed a draft report on Effects of Alternative Development Scenarios in the Capital District.

Working Group B is reviewing Expressway System Options to analyze the Region's expressway system in terms of its capacity to handle current and future demand.

Working Group C is developing and analyzing Big Ticket and Big Idea Concepts, including a comparison of this Region with the approaches to transportation projects and policies taken by other regions throughout the nation.

Working Group D is looking at Larger than Regional Policy Concepts to review the issues surrounding various policies such as annexation, tax sharing, and revisions of State planning and zoning statutes. The working group has completed a draft report on Larger than Regional Policy Concepts.

Working Group E is discussing options for Assisting Local Decision Making in a Regional Context to determine ways in which regional and state agencies can assist local governments in making difficult and intelligent choices about community structure and land development. The working group has completed a draft report on Concepts for Assisting Local Decision Making in a Regional Context.

All working group notes and reports, where completed, are available on CDTC's web site.
