State Association of Regional Councils Selects New Chair

At yesterday's meeting of the New York State Association of Regional Councils (NYSARC), the governing Board elected Jayne Regan Harris of Rensselaer County as its Chair for 2004.

Ms. Harris has been a Commissioner on the Board of the Capital District Regional Planning Council for over ten years, and served as CDRPC's Chair in 2000. She is one of five Rensselaer County Commissioners on the Board.

The New York State Association of Regional Councils is composed of ten locally created regional councils throughout New York State, dedicated to studying the needs and conditions of each region and developing strategies that enhance its member counties through intergovernmental cooperation.

Ms. Harris also serves as the President of the Capital District Youth Center, Inc., the owner of the 24-bed Capital Region Juvenile Secure Detention Center, and Chair of the Friends of Hospice of Rensselaer County.

The Capital District Regional Planning Commission was established as a regional planning board in 1967, by and for Albany, Rensselaer, Saratoga, and Schenectady counties. It performs a wide range of activities, including comprehensive planning, aviation system planning, economic development planning, human resources planning, and technical assistance and information services for the Region.
