At yesterday's meeting of the Capital District Regional Planning Commission, the Board voted to offer the position of Executive Director, vacant since Chungchin Chen's retirement in June, to the Commission's Director of Planning Services, Rocco A. Ferraro, AICP. Mr. Ferraro will assume his new duties effective immediately.

Mr. Ferraro received a B.A. in Urban Studies from Rutgers University and a Master's Degree in City & Regional Planning from Ohio State University. After graduation, he worked for five years as a Land Use Planner for the Toledo Metropolitan Area Council of Governments and then for the next five years as a Neighborhood Planner for the Toledo-Lucas County Plan Commissions, as well as teaching as an Adjunct Professor in the Dept. of Geography & Planning at the University of Toledo.
In 1985, Mr. Ferraro assumed the position of Principal Planner at the Capital District Regional Planning Commission and he was promoted to Director of Planning Services in 1989. In 2000, he took a position at the Saratoga Springs offices of Edwards and Kelcey, an international planning, consulting, engineering and construction services firm, and in 2002 he returned to CDRPC in his former position as Director of Planning Services. Mr. Ferraro also teaches at the University at Albany in the Dept. of Geography & Planning as an Adjunct Professor.
Mr. Ferraro is a member of the American Planning Association and the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP), and is currently serving as the Vice President of the New York Upstate Chapter of the American Planning Association. He also serves as a member of the Town of Clifton Park Environmental Conservation Commission, Treasurer of the Saratoga County Rural Preservation Company, and member of the Sherwood Forest Park District Board.
He currently resides in the Town of Clifton Park, Saratoga County, with his wife and two children.

The Capital District Regional Planning Commission was established as a regional planning board in 1967, by and for Albany, Rensselaer, Saratoga, and Schenectady counties. It performs a wide range of activities, including comprehensive planning, aviation system planning, economic development planning, human resources planning, and technical assistance and information services for the Region.
