CDRPC Planning Director Receives Upstate APA Chapter Award

At its annual conference on Thursday, October 9, 2008, the Upstate New York Chapter of the American Planning Association presented the Michael J. Krasner Professional Planner Award to Rocco A. Ferraro, AICP, Executive Director of the Capital District Regional Planning Commission. The award, named after a past president of the Chapter, is presented annually to a professional planner who has made a sustained contribution to the planning profession through distinguished practice, teaching, or writing. As stated in the award presentation,

Rocky has achieved exceptional accomplishments in planning over an extended period of time and has displayed professional leadership with his colleagues and the communities and organizations where he has worked and freely volunteered his time. Throughout his professional planning career, Rocky has made outstanding contributions to planning and policy formulation, which have proven to inspire planners at the local and national level. He is considered a mentor to both students and planners new to the profession, and many turn to him for guidance and direction in their planning careers. Additionally, Rocky has given freely of his time as a member of the Board to the Upstate New York Chapter of the American Planning Association.

In addition to his full-time job as CDRPC’s Executive Director, Rocky is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Geography & Planning at the University of Albany, and serves on numerous local and regional public service boards.

The Capital District Regional Planning Commission was established as a regional planning board in 1967, by and for Albany, Rensselaer, Saratoga, and Schenectady counties. It performs a wide range of activities, including comprehensive planning, aviation system planning, economic development planning, human resources planning, and technical assistance and information services for the Region.
